Giving Green

It is a great year for giving "green".  Not dollars, but real "green", as in back to nature, and trees!  Whatever the reason (and I am not sure if it has a connection to a poor economy or not) people are thinking good thoughts about our ecology as the economy continues to struggle out of this mess.
Maybe it is because green giving is more lasting gift. One that helps not only the one who "recieves" the gift (or, gift in their honor) but it also helps the planet.  The planet, it seems, is rather like Scarlet O'Hara in gone with the wind..... "The only thing that matters, the only thing that lasts... Land"
But does it/will it last?  When we ask ourselves this question, it may be that we are not so sure about that anymore.  Foreclosures, so many of which tore families from their homesteads (their "Land", their "Tara" )took a heavy toil on many a soul - but what if you could know a little happiness in a green gift?  Knowing that someone had a tree planted in your name, somewhere on public land.  What if you could take comfort in that?  It is not only victims of foreclosure who may appreciate it though.  It might also be those with a genuine concern for the environment, and our delicate ecosystem.  Will it really last?
